started our business from home because I was laid off, it was tough.
Doing a food delivery business, I suddenly went from high paying
corporate executive to delivery man. It was truly humbling. And I
also understand FEAR and when you say you need to "throw fear out
the window". And you actually hit the nail on the head you know?
Fear is ALL in your mind. 90% of those obstacles are created in our
minds because we NEED to be in our comfort zone and the best way to
deal with those fears is HEAD-ON. Grab it by the horns, look at it
and say... Yeah I'm scared, but I'm not going to let it stop me.
Then throw FEAR out the window. Will FEAR come back again? Heck it
will try! It'll sit and wait for that time when you're low, stressed
out and creep back into your mind! But enough about that silly thing
called FEAR.
You are also on the right track when you say that you need to do
some goal planning. If you're the kind who plans in writing, bravo.
If you're not sure what business to go into :
- List down all your skills, talents. Don't know that they are?
They're stuff that people always compliment you about. Things that
you always find easy to do while others struggle. Hobbies that you
always end up indulging in when you have personal time.
- Now expand each one in that list into possible ways to make money
using those skills. Don't think about how much money you're going to
make first.
- Shortlist your target business.
- Then find out all you can about how those businesses are run.
Scour the internet. Read books. Talk to people who are doing it.
When you do this, you get a CLEAR picture of what the business is
all about, the costs involved, the skills you need and all the other
little details that can potentially turn into FEAR if left
unanswered.
- Once you've got all your facts together, have a deep chit-chat
with your hubby or close friend. This is the stage where you are
SERIOUSLY exploring which business you will try your hand at. Make
sure this person is someone you KNOW is supportive and honest. You
don't want to talk to someone who will tear down your ideas simply
because they're pessimistic. Remember "You can't fly with eagles if
you keep running around with turkeys".
- Now do the legwork. Visit your local banker or small business
bureau to ask about financing and small business loans. This is a
tough stage, but doing it sort of cements in your mind that you ARE
serious about working for yourself.
People often get fearful and lose their sense of direction when
they're thinking of going into business because they don't do the
necessary research. Unanswered questions quickly turn into demons!
Also one last thought. Many folks end up quitting their business
because the jump onto a bandwagon after being pressured that THIS is
the business that's making money.
If you start a business around something you're passionate about,
everyday will seem like you're getting payed to enjoy yourself. If
you don't then everyday will seem like a hell.
Thanks so much for your patience in reading my long "sermon".
Wish you all the best.
