[entrepreneurs] Re: trying to start something

Hey trying,

I would get yourself down the a SCORE Office or the like and ask them
these questions. But let's throw some answers out there anyway.

Remember this line, "I need to be able to ship my product to a client by
___________. How can you help me?" Even if you ask this in your mind.
Focus and it's not hard.

Pricing should be based on your time and expenses.
You need to include things like volumes and manufacturing methods, as
well as payment methods and taxes whether you are a client (your
supplier) or a seller.

Most times, your state is where you need to file your business. It is
imperative that you look into business insurance and get a tax id #.

Shipping can easily be handled by UPS or Fed Ex. Either of these will
set up an account for you. As a new business, you may have to pay
upfront a set amount that they would draw from. An alternative is if
your client would put the shipping on her account.

As far as not knowing what the customer wants, it is not unreasonable to
ask that person what she is expecting as your client. "What do you see
my job in this relationship to be?"

Lastly, as you learn you'll be able to ask more targeted and concise
questions. Ask them quickly and be prepared to act on the answers and
you'll do fine.

I hope this was helpful.

Good luck,

Patrick
