I am not the best at marketing!!!! I put out flyers in shops that were kind of relevant to my business ie: naturopaths, natural therapists ect - this did work for me, I also did letterbox drops - a lot of hard work and sometimes little or no response, newspaper ads ect. I work from home as a Massage therapist (as well as my internet based business) it can be very hard as you don't have a shop front, most of my clientele comes from word or mouth now, however in the beginning it was a LOT of HARD work, well worth it though.

With regard to tax, here in Australia we must get an A.B.N. (Australian Business Number). bookkeeping can be kept fairly simple - depends on how you run the business are you purchasing at a discount, then on-selling at retail price? you need to declare any profit (your earnings) (this is how it is done in Aust. anyway).

you also need to claim business expenses, ie stationery, brochures, advertising ect anything you need to purchase for the running of your business, you can also claim vehicle kilometres ie if you were going to a fair to set up and sell your cosmetics you could claim the klm's travelled from home to the fair and back. You can also claim certain aspects of your home as this is your office, however talk to a professional about this as I am not 100% sure about the in's and out's.
