Kathy, someone posted an article a couple of weeks ago on branding and
color, which led me to the author's website and an online logo creator -- I
didn't know they existed! You can run their free demo and play around with
different logos yourself. They have a large library of icons you can
customize in size and color and placement along with the text you place
around your logo. Select from the looks you want for your company. (They'll
have the same icon in a high tech graphic and in an artsy one, for
instance.)
Better yet, the articles under the "About Us" section are very helpful to
read and keep in mind when creating your logo and brand.

When you've created the logo, you can pay to download high resolution files,
and they have a business card creator that takes the logo you created and
lets you place it and size it on different backgrounds depending on the
style you want. Or you can just play around with ideas on their site. I
gather other online logo creators exist.
My thanks to the original poster of that article. It came right when we
needed it! We had business cards the next day.
