For video social networking sites like Youtube, you can either do screen
capture or full motion video (like with a camcorder).

For the latter, I purchased an iFlip and am still learning how to use
it. It's not that difficult but there is some editing that I wanted to
do before going live.

For screen capture, you will need to have a program like Camtasia. It
costs $300 I believe, and there are other no-cost options that have
certain limitations.

One of these that I have used extensively is Jing:

They used to have a free option; I don't know if they still do. Your
screen capture videos are limited to five minutes and you can't edit
them (such as to add captions or sound later)..

But it is great for doing quick little software instructional pieces. I
use it all the time for my accounting site.
