You might want to try the bed sheets (spray painted) to just make sure the visibility issue is solved (maybe you have already determined that). If you wanted to keep your display mobile (not fixed construction) - you could use styrofoam. It can still hang from the the ceiling or with minor structure support stand on the floor. If you had the styrofoam with some minor structure supported from the floor - you would be able to mount a few odds and ends (nothing massive) on the interior side.
I have seen some real eye catching store windows done with styrofoam. You could stage the scooter as if it just drove through the wall - with chunks of styrofoam knocked out like bricks (to match) the outside of your building. Even though it is a static display - it has an appearance of motion which does catch peoples eyes. That was another thing a designer told me - that for marketing words with no sound will get read and remembered longer than voice scripts (best to have both) and motion will immediately draw peoples attention. Maybe just a little electric fan blowing on some wheel spinners to look like the wheel is rotating - also leave the headlight on
Anyway - just some more scatter-brained ideas.
