Instead of building a room - try a screened room divider. You could place your scooter in the window with an opaque white sheet or black sheet behind it (depending on the color of the scooter). I was told by a designer one time that green was pleasing to your eyes naturally and yellow & red gets people's attention - hence the traffic lights. Perhaps a yellow sheet with a red scooter or vice versa.
You could use the other side of the room divider for display as well - as you noted.
I wouldn't buy the divider right away though. I would test it first with a sheet, just hanging from the ceiling with fishing line. The angle of the street light, sun, etc might still not work - no sense in buying everything right away. You may have to change the angle of your display or the sheet.
