From my experience it can be very easy to get started.
The affiliate companies I use:
-either have low or NO start up fees :)
-provide you a webpage
-have power/forced matrix and from the money that comes into the company, a high % goes back out to us!
-have sound corporate structures, easy to use help centers
-offer products or services which appeal to a wide range of people.
I personally approach the use of these companies differently from traditional affiliate marketing.
I look at the companies I use as Investments and I invest my time and energy in the people and my money in the companies.
The InVeStworks model that I use supports the fact that truly wealthy people get there by helping others, in other words increasing the Value in another's life. As I type this the I'm hearing the words of James Arthur Ray in my head (not in a crazy way I promise :)
James is one of my favorite motivational speaker and self made multi-millionaires! He just released his new book called "Harmonic Wealth"...book report to follow next week
