You did not make it clear as to whether you are interested in 'brick
and mortar' sales, or if you are looking more towards Internet resources.
I would start by contacting every magazine having anything to do with
the dog industry. Approach them with a press release, (properly
formatted, low key, no sales language)announcing your new business and
hit heavy on the health benefits of your product.
Done properly, you should get a fair number of requests for
interviews. If you are interviewed, you will get tons of coverage for
no out of pocket expense whatsoever.
Magazines are constantly looking for content (especially now that the
Internet is hitting them in the proverbial pocketbook). If you make
the right contacts in the right way, the end result is the possibility
of creating massive awareness for little or no money whatsoever (also
known as 'free advertising').
Using publicity resources, rather than old school 'in your face'
advertising, is the key to creating credibility. This is especially
important in the type of business you are describing here.
