Selling anything is a strategic endevour. Selling books on-line is
just a single action. Just as you might play a game of chess, you
must always consider the end-game.
Just as stores might use a loss-leader get you into a store, those
that sell books at those rates are using the same strategy.
They are selling books that have other offering within them. If its
a hard-copy then it might be a custom cover or a brochure slipped
between the pages, or both. There are many innovative ways to
capture the attention of those that buy from you. You just have to
find the right medium and be consistent.
If it's an eBook, then shipping and handling provides A VERY little
PROFIT sometimes. But it all goes back to the relationship with the
customer that they try to develop on the backside.
Its the same game when someone talks of list building, which is
another reason to sell something for a penny. It is the end-game
where the real money comes from.
Let me offer this example.
I wrote this post to help you understand why someone would sell
anything so cheap. I believe I have provided some valuable insight.
