I used to bake organic dog treats myself and had to give it up once my
daughter was born as I didn't have time to keep my full time job, bake
cookies, and care for a newborn. Anyway, I had a lot of luck selling the
biscuits at local pet supply stores as well as organic and natural food
stores. They would buy a certain amount of bags from me and would mark the
price up to sell to the public.
Hope that helps!
Kristin

Subject: [entrepreneurs] Help on how to jump start my All Organic Dog Treats
Hello,
My name is Marilou and I bake homemade all organic dog biscuits. I
use only four ingredients: organic whole wheat flour, organic
unrefined virgin coconut oil, organic oats and organic chicken
broth. My selling point is the unrefined virgin coconut oil which
has a lot of health benefits for the dogs. The treats are somewhat
part supplement because unrefined virgin coconut oil actually helps
pets and humans lose weight. It's very waist friendly.
I started selling at the Farmers Market but the foot traffic is so
low. I think it's because the market actually has only 2 farmers as
vendors and the rest are selling other stuff like cookies, olive
oil, candles etc. I asked the shelters if I can be a vendor to one
of their events but they want 100% proceeds of the sales. I am
willing to give 50% so I can at least cover my cost but they are not
interested. I thought about selling to boutiques but I don't know
how to go about approaching them. Also, when I did my cost analysis,
I realize it's very expensive to bake my cookies (coconut oils is
$30 for 54oz) because If I sell on the web, I wouldn't be able to
fulfill the orders since I am a small time operator for now.
I was thinking about selling my treats like the Avon or Mary Kay
style approach but how do I find the right people?
I am completely a mess. I don't want to go back to work in the
office any more. I have 4 months to jump start this business or I
have to find a full time employment somewhere else.
Ok, enough said. Thanking all of you guys in advance for your
advice and support.
