Kurt, I happy to hear that your business is prospering -- thanks for sharing!

so I thought I'd bring you up to date.
This second year is shaping up SO much different from last year! I've
already sold more scooters than last year, and it's not even Memorial
day! I'm running all the time!
As my business grows my attitude towards money is changing. What I
consider "small" keeps getting bigger. For example, a couple of months
ago I signed up with a distributor who offers "free" shipping on
purchases over $300. I would delay making a purchase by several days
until I had accumulated enough to meet that threshold.
Today I just go ahead and buy stuff, and low and behold I'm usually
over that $300 limit! That's no longer an extraordinary amount, it's
just a normal buy.
Likewise "big" is getting bigger. Yesterday I wrote two checks
totaling around $8,000. They both went to the same place - the only
reason for two checks instead of just one was because they were
covering two separate orders.
Last year my "big" threshold was around $2,000. Right now it's around
$4,000, and I expect that by the end of the year it'll be even higher
and I'll be writing some $10,000 checks for something.
Don't get me wrong - my business has not yet gotten past its
break-even point! What's happened is that as the business grows, so do
the swings in both income and expense. It's SO tempting to look at a
large checking account balance and think "I'm rich!", only to have it
plummet back toward zero the next day as those checks get cashed!
As the business grows this summer I have to keep in mind the cold,
snowy days in January when NOBODY is buying scooters!
